Just a day after their loss to the Vancouver Titans, the Paris Eternal have made drastic changes to their roster. On Monday August 15, the Paris Eternal announced the release of four members of their roseter – Daniël “Daan” Scheltema, Ilari “Vestola” Vestola, Arthur “dridro” Szanto and Emir “Kaan” Okumus. The announcement came as a shock to the Overwatch League audience as the four players helped the Eternal finish with a 8-8 record just a year ago. Now sitting at 1-13, the Paris Eternal felt as though a massive change was necessary for future success.

Paris is the third team to make sweeping changes to their team midway through the season. Just last week the New York Excelsior and the Houston Outlaws made roster adjustments in hopes to turn the season around. Paris is easily the most drastic of the three, as neither Houston or New York let go of four players all at once. Typically these type of roster changes occur in the offseason, rarely in between weeks of play.

With the trade deadline quickly approaching, it looks as though Paris was unable to find a trade for any of these players. These players are eligible to find new teams as the timing of their release allows them to seek new opportunities despite the deadline. The biggest hurdle for these players now is simply the budget concerns of many OWL teams. Even if these player accept the league minimum, it may be too difficult for some organizations to bring on new players with only half a season left.
