Believe it or not, the Overwatch League is heading into its fifth season in 2022. After so many highs and more recently lows, the League is hanging in there and ready for something fresh. Luckily for the players and fans, that freshness will come from Overwatch 2 which will bring with it many new ways for teams to play and much more. The Overwatch League heads into its fifth season with a renewed vigor. For starters, the league will be playing on an early version of Overwatch 2. While that may not sound like too much, there are a few major aspects of the game that will have an effect on the OWL.
For starters, the game will now be 5v5 instead of 6v6. This means there will be one less tank than in Original Overwatch. There will be new strategies and comps that fans may have never expected. Along with this will be the reworking of many of the heroes to fit into this gameplay from before. As of right now mostly tanks have been revealed as getting reworks but it is basically every hero.
They are also dropping the 2CP maps and instead, adding push as a new game mode where the goal is to get the objective to the opponent’s side of the map. With this fans will get to see the new mode in the OWL starting on day one.
Speaking of day one, the Overwatch League Season 5 Start Date will be on May 5, 2022. There is no doubt that fans have been waiting long enough as the nearly nine-month absence of the OWL has certainly made fans on edge. The hope will be that all of the new additions and Overwatch 2 being the focal point will have been worth it.
