After a dreadful first half of the year, the New York Excelsior have decided it is time to bring in some reinforcements. The double flex support set up was not bringing in the best results, and New York has made the proper adjustment. Early on Wednesday August 10, the New York Excelsior announced the signing of Soon-Jae “ANSOONJAE” An to their roster. ANSOONJAE is a main support player previously with Talon Esports and the Toronto Defiant.

With the Toronto Defiant, ANSOONJAE helped the team to a 9-7 record, just missing out on the end of year playoffs in a lost to the San Francisco Shock. He played for the majority of the season, providing a stable presence in the back line for Toronto. After the season he was released and found himself back in Korean Contenders.

In Contenders ANSOONJAE proved to be a top-tier main support, one that is certainly still worthy of making an OWL roster. With Talon Esports, ANSOONJAE and company finished second overall in the Overwatch Contenders A-Sides tournament.
ANSOONJAE will bring an immediate boost to a struggle New York squad as he fills the much needed hole in the roster. The Excelsior came into the season without a main support. They opted to have Nam-jin “Gangnamjin” Kang learn a new hero for the season. Unfortunately that has lead to only disaster as Lucio has remained a key character in Overwatch 2. ANSOONJAE is slated for a massive role for this team as a Brawl meta looms overhead of the Overwatcdh League.
New York start their Summer Showdown Qualifiers against the Houston Outlaws – another team who have made changes heading into the second half of the year.
