The Chicago Bulls delivered one of their most complete performances of the season Tuesday night, defeating the Memphis Grizzlies 132-107 behind a breakout effort from Matas Buzelis and an all-around performance from Josh Giddey.
Buzelis scored 29 points, including 18 in a pivotal third quarter, while Giddey recorded a triple-double with 16 points, 15 rebounds and 13 assists at the United Center. The Bulls controlled the tempo throughout the second half, turning a competitive game into a decisive victory.
Chicago entered halftime with a narrow lead but quickly created separation coming out of the break. The Bulls opened the third quarter on a 21-4 run fueled by defensive pressure and efficient transition scoring. Buzelis knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers and attacked the rim, helping extend the lead to more than 20 points.
Memphis attempted to respond late in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to single digits behind second-chance opportunities and improved perimeter shooting. However, Chicago answered with
composure. A mid-range jumper followed by a second-chance putback halted the Grizzlies’ momentum and restored a double-digit lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Bulls maintained control the rest of the way, using balanced scoring and disciplined defense to pull away. Six players finished in double figures, highlighting Chicago’s offensive depth and unselfish ball movement.
Giddey played a central role in that balance, orchestrating the offense while dominating the glass. His triple-double marked another strong outing during a productive stretch, as he continues to emerge as a key playmaker for Chicago.
Memphis struggled to keep pace offensively and could not overcome its slow start to the second half. Cedric Coward led the Grizzlies with 17 points, but the team’s inconsistency and inability to contain Chicago’s scoring runs proved costly.
Key plays
The turning point came early in the third quarter. After forcing consecutive turnovers, Chicago converted multiple fast-break opportunities. Buzelis hit a transition 3-pointer that pushed the lead into double digits, and Giddey followed with a precise assist on a cutting play that capped the 21-4 run.
Later in the third, Memphis closed within eight points before Chicago responded with back-to-back baskets to regain control. That sequence effectively ended the Grizzlies’ comeback attempt.
Injuries
Both teams entered the game shorthanded. Chicago has been dealing with multiple injuries, limiting its rotation and forcing younger players into expanded roles. Despite those challenges, the Bulls have found production from their emerging core.
Memphis was also without several key contributors, including Ja Morant and Brandon Clarke, which has contributed to the team’s recent struggles and lack of offensive rhythm.
Stats and notes
Chicago surpassed 130 points while maintaining efficiency on both ends of the floor. The team’s ability to convert turnovers into points and control rebounds played a major role in the outcome.
The victory continues a stretch in which Chicago has shown improvement, particularly from its younger players. Buzelis has taken on a larger scoring role, while Giddey’s consistency as a rebounder and facilitator has stabilized the offense.
For Memphis, the loss extended a difficult run as the team continued to navigate injuries and lineup changes. Defensive lapses and inconsistent shooting have been recurring issues during the skid.
Up next
Chicago will look to build on the performance as it continues its late-season schedule, focusing on development and cohesion. Memphis, meanwhile, will aim to regroup and find stability as it works to snap its losing streak.
For one night, Chicago’s young core delivered a convincing performance, offering a glimpse of potential moving forward.
