MLS Homegrowns Beats CD Guadalajara U-20 Team

Game Recap

The MLS Homegrown team came out with a win on Tuesday, July 30 against the C.D. Guadalajara U-20 team.

Guadalajara got an early goal in the first minute of the game. Irving Marquez got the ball from a throw-in. He took a right-footed shot from the center of the box to the top left corner to make it 1-0.

MLS got a free kick about 15 yards outside of the box. George Campbell took the free-kick. He lofted the ball into the box, where it passed everyone. Then, teammate Omir Fernandez got lucky, putting his left foot on the ball to put it in the center of the goal. That tied up the game 1-1.

There were a lot of fast-paced plays that led to close goals, but all attempts were saved.

It wasn’t until the 69th minute when Guadalajara player, Sebastian Martinez, scored. He tried to shoot when he got the ball on the right side of the six. The keeper was on the ground after the deflection. Martinez went around the keeper and hit the ball in.

MLS was scrambling to tie up the game. They scored in extra time. On a corner, Noble Okello got the ball while everyone scrambled in the box. He shot it central to tie up the game.

The game went to penalty kicks at 2-2.

Penalty Recap

Guadalajara started with Jose Rangel who had a high left-footed shot that went wide.

MLS player, Sam Vines, took a left-footed shot that went in and gave MLS the lead.

Martinez then took a chance to score again. He went for the top right corner, but it was saved.

Thomas Roberts made a hard shot into the bottom left corner of the goal. This made it 2-0 for MLS in penalty kicks.

Sebastian Fierro tried to help Guadalajara with a comeback by taking a shot to the bottom right corner of the goal. However, it was saved again.

Cole Bassett lined up to take the important penalty shot. With his right foot, he took a shot into the top right. The keeper dove the right way, but his fingers tipped the ball into the goal.

The game ended 2(3)-2 for MLS.
