FC Cincinnati has hired a fourth head coach (including an interim coach) before their second season as an MLS team has even begun.
The club fired Alan Koch after a 2-7-2 start to their inaugural season, replacing him with interim head coach Yoann Damet. In August of 2019, they hired Ron Jans, who stepped away from the team in February 2020 after an investigation began into him allegedly using a racial slur. Damet returned to the interim position after Jans’ resignation.
Now, in May 2020, FCC has hired Jaap Stam, a former player for the likes of Manchester United before he began his coaching career in 2014. FC Cincinnati will be the fifth team Stam has managed since 2014.
Stam will be tasked with turning around the team that ended its inaugural season with the worst record in the MLS. FCC’s 6-22-6 record was good for worst in the conference and the league, albeit in their very first season since being promoted from the USL.
The team needs stability and a winning culture, after so much turnover in their first campaign. Stam will be expected to bring that to Cincinnati, whenever professional sports can resume.
