It’s a brand new season for Marvel Snap, and with it comes a brand new Season Pass. This time around the Season Pass features everyone’s favorite mental organism designed only for killing. That’s right, M.O.D.O.K is making his Marvel Snap debut this season, and players can’t wait to craft up brand new lists featuring the super villain. For the sake of writing the card’s name over and over, I am going to omit the periods in his name.

MODOK is a 5-energy card with 8 power that that has the ability: “On Reveal: Discard your hand”. As you could probably imagine, this is a very powerful effect that players will absolutely attempt to utilize. Discard decks have been relevant since the release of Marvel Snap, and there is surely going to be a home for this big-brained villain. After just a day of testing, here just a few potential MODOK decks to try out on the ranked ladder.

Deck List: Blade, Morbius, The Collector, Wolverine, Swarm, Colleen Wing, Mystique, Gambit, Moon Knight, MODOK, Apocalyse, Helicarrier
Pros:
– Cheap cards get strong very quickly
– Plenty angles of attack
Cons:
– Discard is random, which can lead to unlucky outcomes
– No
Hela
means we can’t get things back
Swarm is a card that I personally didn’t want to run in my Discard decks, because it wound up clogging my hand of 3-power cards. As it increased my hand size, it decreased my chances of discarding the important cards like Apocalypse or The Infinaut. However with the introduction of MODOK, Swarm has a new lease of life.

In this list, the goal is to create as many copies of Swarm as possible through the various discard outlets in the deck. By doing so, you increase the power of both The Collector and Morbius, creating two lanes that can win with a single 2-cost card. Each time you discard a Swarm, The Collector and Morbius both gain power. All it takes is one instance of Swarm being discarded and it’s off to the races. When MODOK discards a hand of Swarm copies, the game is all but locked up. You can fill any gaps with the free copies of Swarm to secure any close matchups.
If that angle does not pan out, the deck functions as a completely normal discard deck with Apocalypse as the finisher.

Deck List: Morbius, Psylocke, Invisible Woman, Wave, Dracula, Jubilee, Iron Man, MODOK, Hela, America Chavez, The Infinaut, Death
Pros:
– Devastating turn 6 that can steal wins
– A ton of power
Cons:
– Tough to assemble the combo
– Still more optimizing left to do
This example list is by far the most experimental of the bunch, as it looks to juggle several combo pieces at once. In a perfect world, this list asks the pilot to play Invisible Woman, Wave, Hela (under IW) and MODOK in that order. The hope is to hide Hela until after discarding your hand with MODOK, to eventually bring it all back after the game ends. This line of play will typically bring back four or five cards based on the amount of space left on the board.
The deck is fun and interesting to see the pieces come together, but without plan A there isn’t much of a plan at all. The draws can be tough, and they rely on Wave to play other big threats before their time. Psylocke helps play Jubilee on turn three, however Jubilee can be really good or terribly bad at times. Hitting a big threat or MODOK without Hela is fantastic. Hitting MODOK with other combo pieces in hand is tragic.
There is still plenty to build off of this list, it will just take a couple more attempts to find out what sticks.

Deck List: Ice Man, Mojo, Scorpion, Zabu, Cosmo, Spider-Man, Rescue, Strong Guy, Omega Red, Crossbones, Aero, MODOK
Pros:
– One or two cards can win a location
– Plenty of flexibility in card choices
Cons:
– Plenty of four drops makes the deck reliant on
Zabu
–
Strong Guy
sucks without
MODOK
Strong Guy is one of those cards without a real home. He doesn’t quite fit in discard decks since they usually have card that come back into their hand. He doesn’t really fit in Zabu decks because it is too tricky to play all the cards in your hand. Outside of those potential lists, Strong Guy is just a four-cost four-power card that doesn’t do anything. However just like Swarm, Strong Guy just might have a shot at being relevant with MODOK.
Admittedly, this list probably does have too many four-cost cards for it’s own good, but if things go right the deck has a ton of power. The important thing to note about this list is that not one of these cards are reactive. You want to put these cards onto the field ASAP in order to get the most from Strong Guy. Any card left over will be discarded to MODOK on turn 6.
Crossbones, Rescue and Aero are strong cards that can help win a location away from Strong Guy. The deck does become a little tricky without Zabu but it can still set itself up with a turn 4 SG, turn 5 Aero into turn 6 MODOK. It’s not much, but it will sneak some wins here and there.
