The Dennis Hawelka award is given out every season to one player in the Overwatch League that embodies what the late Dennis Hawelka stood for. It honors Dennis Hawelka’s memory as a player and coach in Overwatch who unfortunately died in 2017. This award goes to someone who embodies the positivity energy and inspiration spirit to their teammates and the community. In Season 5 of the Overwatch League the honor goes to London Spitfire’s Hadi “Hadi” Bleinagel .
The London Spitfire was not a favorite this season unlike the Dallas Fuel or San Fransisco Shock. Not only did the team reach the play offs, they made it all the way to LAN. Hadi is a great leader within that team not just mechanically, which is seen through this tank role star award, but also when inspiring his team. Through his long career in Overwatch since 2018, Hadi has been a positive light in the community. That was all the more highlighted when he join the Overwatch League.

He has uplifted the community despite going through many professional obstacles. Not just on camera, but also behind the scenes he constantly checks on his teammates. His focus on the connection between gaming and fitness is a major goal that has influenced his life and he continues to try and inspire others around him to join him that. To Hadi he sees being a leader is to be a family. His father like role on the team has only furthered their growth together.
Hadi joins the ranks of Pongphop ‘Mickie’ Rattanasangchod, Scott ‘Custa’ Kennedy, Caleb ‘McGravy’ McGarvey, and Yeong-han ‘SP9RK1E’ Kim who all previously has won the award. For everything Hadi has done for the community, the 2022 Dennis Hawelka award is well deserved. Congratulations!
