The Houston Outlaws have made a surprise move just days before the Summer Showdown. On Wednesday August 10, the Outlaws announced the signing of Joseph “Lep” Cambriani and Tomas “Doge” Kongsore from Contenders. Lep joins the team after playing on Pyrates in Pyjamas in the North America Contenders A-Sides tournament, finishing 5-6th overall. Doge spent the spring playing with 01_esports in the Saudi eLeague circuit. Both players have a long history of playing in Contenders, and have seen varying levels of success through those times.

The announcement comes shortly after rumors that the Houston Outlaws were looking to move some of their players before the second half of the season. With the trade deadline on August 18, it would seem that Houston were looking to make that final push into the upper echelon of the league. Houston were one of the few teams that were “missing” one of the traditional role players on their roster. The Outlaws went into the 2022 season without a dedicated main tank, opting instead to use Dante “Danteh” Cruz to play Doomfist and Min-jun “PIGGY” Shin to play everything else.

Shockingly, Houston also failed to roster a main support player before the season. Their recent signings are aimed at fixing those two issues, and to relieve some of the pressure on PIGGY and the Houston support line. Lep and Doge are poised to have an immediate impact on the Outlaws roster as the Summer Showdown brings a new meta that demands a few key characters.
